SUFC: Blues face Hammers test
Sunday August 1 2010 - Last Updated at 15:25
Southend United will test themselves against a strong West Ham side on Tuesday (3 Aug), when the East Londoners visit Roots Hall for a pre-season friendly.
The hastily-arranged fixture (7.45ko) gives many fans the chance to see Paul Sturrock’s new-look side for the first time. Pre-season games against Ipswich and Canvey were called off, due to the Blues not having enough players at the time.
The Hammers have promised to send a decent side, with new boss Avram Grant keen to give the likes of Scott Parker and England flop Robert Green a run out on the Essex coast. Tickets for the match have been priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and are available from the Blues Box Office.
The Shrimpers kick off the new season – in League Two – on Saturday (7th August) at 3pm at home to Stockport.
Southend’s pre-season so far:
Dartford (a) Lost 2-0
Derby (h) 1-1
Salisbury (a) 1-1
Rushden & Diamonds (a) 0-0
Eastbourne (a) Won 1-0
